White Collar Boxing in Basingstoke

White collar boxing events have exploded in popularity across the UK — and several members of Basingstoke Boxing Classes have competed in them. Here's everything you need to know.

What is White Collar Boxing?

White collar boxing is amateur boxing events organised specifically for non-professional fighters, typically people who work in offices and take up boxing for the occasion. Events are usually charity fundraisers or corporate challenges.

Typical format:

  • 3 x 2-minute rounds (sometimes 3 x 1.5 mins)
  • Full safety equipment (headguard, mouthguard, gloves)
  • Non-professional medical supervision
  • Matched opponents of similar experience
  • Huge social and crowd atmosphere

You don't need a boxing licence. You don't need to be a trained fighter. You just need to prepare properly.

How Long Does it Take to Prepare?

Most white collar boxing events require a minimum 8–12 weeks of dedicated training. This gives you enough time to:

  • Learn fundamental technique
  • Develop boxing fitness
  • Get comfortable with sparring
  • Build a basic game plan

If you're already training regularly at Basingstoke Boxing Classes, 8 weeks of more focused preparation is realistic. If you're starting from scratch, 12 weeks is recommended.

What Training Do You Need?

Weeks 1–3: Fundamentals

  • Stance, footwork, basic punches
  • Pad work and bag work
  • Start conditioning — skipping, circuits

Weeks 4–6: Combinations & Fitness

  • Combination punching
  • Defensive techniques
  • Sparring begins (lightly)
  • Increase conditioning intensity

Weeks 7–9: Sparring & Strategy

  • Regular controlled sparring
  • Develop your style and strengths
  • Work on weaknesses
  • Fight-specific conditioning

Weeks 10–12: Refinement & Taper

  • Sharpen technique
  • Reduce volume, maintain sharpness
  • Mental preparation
  • Taper in final week

Private Coaching for White Collar Events

If you have a specific white collar boxing event booked, we'd recommend a combination of group classes and private 1-on-1 sessions with Liam to develop your individual game plan.

Private sessions (from £30) allow your coach to focus entirely on your specific preparation — the way you move, your natural strengths, how to handle your likely opponent.
